Audition Guideline for Western Classical Music Programme

1. An applicant for Western Classical Music Programme is to choose either VOICE or PIANO only as his/her major.

2. The following majors are NOT provided in the programme: Any musical instruments, Any Indian classical music, Any western contemporary music

3. A VOICE Major applicant is to present two songs at the audition.

Candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor degree with Honours in Hindustani Music- Vocal/ Instrumental (Sitar/Sarod/Guitar/Violin/Santoor) or KarnatakMusic – Vocal/Instrumental (Veena/ Violin) or Percussion Music(Tabla/Pakhawaj) course must have passed any one of the following examinationswith 45% or more marks in the aggregate with Music as one of the subjects:

    • Candidates who have not offered Music as one of the subjects at the last qualifying Examinationand desirous of seeking admission to the Bachelor degree with Honours in Hindustani Music- Vocal/Instrumental (Sitar/Sarod/Guitar/Violin/Santoor)Karnatak Music- Vocal/Instrumental (Veena/ Violin) and Percussion Music(Tabla/Pakhawaj), must have learnt Music for not less than three yearsin a recognised institution.
    • Learnt Music for not less than three years from a well-known teacher/guru. Such candidates willbe required to submit a certificate issued by the institution/teacher/guru, as the case may be tothis effect.
  2. The aggregate 45% marks requirement of any of the examinations mentioned above (clause 1)will be determined on the basis of one language (core/ elective) and three more elective subjects including Music.

  • There are eight grades of exam in Music Performance and Music Theory. These exams progress in difficulty from Grade 1 to Grade 8. The Prep Test is designed to encourage the building of good musical and technical foundations. ARSM (Associate of the Royal Schools of Music) is a post-Grade 8 performance-only exam. BA in Music Production & Composition | (3 years)

The objective of this 3-year, 6-semester course, is to help create musicians who are proficient in production and composition of music – primarily for the screen. The students will learn skills that will make them industry ready.

Over the duration of the three-year programme of BA in Music, the students will gain an in-depth understanding of the world of Indian and International music. The students will be trained in the technical aspects of music compositions and will study audiographer software, along with performance.

The course also promotes individual professional conduct, communication skills and leadership qualities. At the end of the three years, the students will be trained and ready to enter the Indian music industry as quality musicians.

FILM AND TELEVISION INSTITUTE OF INDIA, PUNE

Established as 'Film Institute of India' in 1960 on the erstwhile Prabhat Studio premises at Pune, FTII boasts of a rich legacy in quality Indian cinema. The Prabhat Studios were declared heritage sites by the Pune Municipal Corporation and are used by the students to this day. The Institute was renamed 'The Film and Television Institute of India' in 1971. The Television Wing, earlier located at the Mandi House, New Delhi was shifted to Pune in the early seventies, bringing together the training in film and television under a common roof. At its inception in 1974, the Television wing was concerned with the provision of in-service training to personnel from Doordarshan. This Wing has in recent years launched a one-year course in Television.

The Institute has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Today, the FTII is commonly regarded as a center of excellence across the world. Films made by the students of the Institute have enjoyed excellent receptions in festivals in India and abroad and have gone on to win National and International awards. The alumni of the FTII have left an indelible imprint across all facets of Indian Cinema and television and have built an excellent reputation in its allied industries.

About NSD

The National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India. It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959. In 1975, it became an independent entity and was registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public.

Three-year full-time Diploma Courses in Dramatic Arts

The National School of Drama provides a three-year full-time Diploma Course for entrants intending to make theatre their profession. 
The central aim of the course is to prepare students for the practice of theatre. 
To this end a variety of practical skills must be developed and a corpus of knowledge acquired. While all areas of study are assessed separately and a high standard of work demanded in each, the most important intention of the course is the development of the intangible concept of creative imagination and its expression within the collective framework of a group.

Syllabus

Training in the School is based on a thorough, comprehensive and carefully planned syllabus that covers every aspect of theatre from theory to practice over three years, and the results are put to the test before a wide audience. The syllabus takes into account the methods of eminent theatre personalities who have shaped contemporary theatre in all its forms and expressions. It includes broad-based training in classical dramatic traditions in India and the West, modern theatre trends in India and abroad, and in the traditional and folk theatre of India, and specialized training in Indian theatre traditions

FIRST YEAR

Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics

The FIRST YEAR is divided into two semesters. The first semester (July– December) is devoted to the basics of Acting, Theatre Techniques & Design, and Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics. In the second semester the same subjects are studied in detail.

SECOND YEAR

Specialisation in Acting OR Theatre Techniques & Design
Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics

In the SECOND YEAR the students choose their area of specialisation. This year is also broadly divided into two semesters: the third and fourth. The third semester covers Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics, Acting (specialisation), and Theatre Techniques and Design (specialisation). The fourth semester has greater focus on Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics, Acting (specialisation), and Theatre Techniques & Design (specialisation).
